"Producer of fine award-winning Virginia Fruit Wines"
Many types of fruit wines similar to
“Grandma’s” wines are lovingly created
here. Some are made from ancestor’s
recipes. Visitors to the winery are invited
to roam about the farm. There are farm
animals of all types, thousands of fruit
trees, increasing numbers of grape vines,
creeks, ponds, and a picnic area. These
and gracious hosts makes this winery
uniquely suited to family visits.
Even before the founding of Bedford
County the ancestors of the present day
owners-operators were tilling the land,
planting orchards, groves, vineyard; and
serving the public with fruits, produce, and
spirits. It was only a natural outgrowth of
this legacy that this fifth generation farm
develop a winery in 1995. It is owned and
operated by Danny and Nancy Johnson
with the assistance of their son Shannon and wife Donna, who live on the farm, and
grandson’s, Jordon and Josh, and with the encouragement of their son Dan and wife, Kristin, who live in Seattle. You will see Shannon and Donna at most of the Virginia Wine Festivals pouring Peaks of Otter Wine

When the results of the 2009 Scovie Awards, the world's leading
recognition for hot
and spicy products, were announced, we were excited
to get the call from the competition
organizers. Peaks of Otter Winery
has received a 2009 Scovie Award. In the industry's
most rigorous blind
tastings, a panel of the country's top culinary experts sampled
hundreds
of the world's most lauded gourmet foods, and the top scoring products
each
won a coveted Scovie banner.
Peaks of Otter Winery’s “Chili Dawg” wine won 3rd place
in the beverage category. This Virginia wine is a favorite at festivals all over
the
state. Over 600 products from around the world competed for top honors. The Scovie
Awards were created by Dave DeWitt, the nation's leading author on fiery cuisine
and founder of the National Fiery Foods &
Barbecue Show. The awards are named for
Wilbur Scoville who pioneered a rating scale for spicy foods. The Scovie Awards have
become the industry standard for excellence in more than 60 categories of fiery foods.
